THE NEXT GENERATION HEART VALVE
Inspired by Nature, Engineered for Life

The Problem
Patients suffering from severe heart valve damage caused by diseases such as aortic stenosis and rheumatic heart disease urgently need a better solution. Current treatments come with major limitations. Valves made from animal tissue can degrade over time, often requiring high risk repeat surgeries, while mechanical valves require lifelong blood thinners. A valve that restores healthy function and is built to last a lifetime is long overdue.

Tony's story: from a school trek to lifesaving heart valve surgery
“My heart valve replacement has given me a new lease on life and I’m truly thankful, but the current treatment means I take warfarin every day, though the valve is permanent. How life-changing it would be to have a new heart valve fitted that mimics the natural way a healthy human heart valve works, without the need for potent medications for the rest of my life!”
The Solution
CoraMetix is redefining heart valve replacement with a new class of bioinspired valves engineered from specialised polymers and produced using advanced 3D printing. By studying the natural structure of healthy valve tissue, we have developed a patented design that delivers superior performance, durability, and long term reliability compared with current replacement valves. Our manufacturing process also has the potential to significantly reduce costs relative to valves made from animal tissue, while enabling true patient specific customisation. This allows each device to be tailored precisely to an individual’s anatomy.

The Technology
CoraMetix’s valves are powered by Melt Electrowriting (MEW), an advanced microscale 3D printing technology that allows us to create ultra precise fibre architectures not achievable through conventional manufacturing methods. Our MEW platform is being engineered for automated, high throughput production, providing a clear pathway to scalable, cost efficient manufacturing capable of delivering complex valve structures at clinical volumes. All of our systems are designed and built in-house in Western Australia, allowing us to rapidly iterate, refine, and scale our technology. By integrating advanced materials, precision engineering, and proprietary manufacturing techniques, we are redefining how medical implants are designed and produced.
